Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American artist and one of the most important figures in the Neo-Expressionist movement, who was born on December 22, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for his powerful and often controversial paintings, which combined elements of graffiti, street art, and fine art to create a unique and thought-provoking visual language.

Basquiat rose to prominence in the early 1980s, at a time when the art world was being transformed by the rise of street art and hip-hop culture. He quickly became known for his bold and socially conscious works, such as "Untitled (Boxer)," a powerful portrait of a black boxer that tackles themes of race and power, and "Untitled (Hollywood)," a satirical take on Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
